The last game i know of that dealt with Central or South American Cartels was 2011’s “Call of Juarez: The Cartel”,which was a complete clusterfuck of bad ideas, broken mechanics and misinformation. This is a shame, as the setting and materiel could make a great game in my opinion, but it needs to be handled with care. These are real institutions that real people are still dying too every day. Plus, when you take into account the known history of the CIA trafficking drugs into the US, it becomes harder to root for an american insurgency invading a sovereign country to beat the “evil foreign drug runners”. But as i said, this topic could make a great game if the team behind it knows what their doing. What we have here looks like a lot of fun, but i don’t think it’ll be “that” game. The trailer make the game look like a squad based MGS5, and i can get behind that conceptually. All of my issues with MGS5 aside (i’m getting too it, don;t worry. the review will come) it was a well made game, and doing that with friends (the game info says Co-Op will be available) should be a hell of a time. But nothing here gave me any indication that the game will handle the topic with the grace or nuance it deserves. SO i’ll be keeping an eye on this title, but i think it’s going to be important to keep expectations in check.
