When they announced they’d be making a Batman game i wondered how Telltale would handle a more action orientated character. I could see the possibilities for a good story, but at the end of the day Batman has to beat the shit out of someone, and Telltales gameplay isn’t the best for that. Now that we get our first look at the game i can say with confidence “yeah, combat will probably be the week link here”. My main issue with the footage is that it all looks slow, as if the dev team was scared of any players not being able to hit a prompt so they made it impossible to miss the QTEs. It’s possible that this will only be an issue in the tutorial where the game is trying to teach new players whats expected of them, but it still rubs me the wrong way.
That is my only gripe however. I like the look and voice acting and so far it seems rather well written too. Several reviews have said that through the games dialogue you can choose what kind of Batman you play as, so if you want to be the boring Frank Miller style hyper-violent batman you can but you can also form him into a more interesting character as well.
I’m interested to see where this goes, but like all these games i’m still going to wait for the season to drop in full before playing it.
